Radu Filip is an American-educated, European-born young business leader, with a strong background in business transformation (change management & process improvements). The knowledge in various aspects of "change", especially but not limited to "cultural change", comes from lifetime-long professional and personal experiences.
His current position is Asset Manager at the Corporate Headquarters of Cameron International. In this role Radu is responsible for developing and establishing a global governance model for company's software class of assets. In addition, he serves as Program Manager, driving business transformation across multiple functions, product lines and geographical regions for one of the company's most challenging internal programs: The eCommissions Program.
Radu joined Cameron in June 2008 and the first two years with the company coincided with the worldwide economic recession. This provided great opportunities to enhance business and leadership skill-sets in challenging times. The position was part of the Global Organizational Leadership Development (GOLD) Program, an initiative created by Cameron to develop future generation of business leaders.

Radu also serves in the Board of Directors of Littlefield Energy.
Prior to Cameron, Radu was the Manager of Global IT Operations at 3DGeo Inc., an innovative provider of seismic imaging services, where he managed four server farms. His entire career spans over 14 years, 4 industries, and 2 continents.
Radu has an MBA in Global Business & Strategy from Rice University (Houston, TX USA), a Master and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Alexandru Ioan Cuza University (Iasi, Romania EU). At Rice, he was awarded the Jones Citizenship Award for excellence and nominated for the Wright Leadership Award. In 2001 he was awarded the Erasmus/Socrates scholarship in Antwerp (Belgium EU).
Outside the business world, Radu serves and contributes in a number of organizations. He serves as Treasurer for the Graduate Alumni Council at the Rice University, and he is Junior Associate Round-Table Member at the James Baker the III Institute for Public Policies. For NAWMBA he serves as Technology Advisor.
In October 2005 Radu came in the United States of America, which became his adoptive country. He currently lives and works in Houston, Texas. He was born and raised in Iasi, the second-largest city in Romania, a member state of the European Union.
Radu has 14 years of experience in 4 industries (energy, supply chain, Internet services and higher education) on two continents (North America and Europe). During his career he has worked either employed or as professional consultant, with commercial firms, state institutions, and NGO-s.
At the age of 20, his first job was to teach the basics use of the computers to first time office users. A year later, in 1997, he joined the Network Operation Center (CCTI) of the Technical University of Iasi (Romania). It was in this department responsible for the management of the entire academic network (the 2nd largest in Romania at that time) where he did his appreticeship in managing IT infrastructures. In 2001, Radu won a Socrates/Erasmus internship as software engineer for Medior B.V.b.A (Belgium EU), a company in the supply chain management. His project was to develop solutions for data exchange between Unix systems and Siemens mainframes platforms. In 2004 he joined PointerSoft SRL (Romania), a provider of IT services. Between 2001 and 2005 he was also IT consultant for World Market Watch, Inc. (USA), a company specialized in Internet services like business analytics and web metrics.
After he moved in the United States, between 2005 and 2008 Radu designed, built, and managed the worldwide high performance computing (HPC) grid of 3DGeo Inc., a provider of advanced imaging software services for the oil and gas industry. In this capacity he led a team of engineers that was responsible for a complex global distributed environment with thousands of computer systems, tens of clusters, hundreds of terabytes in storage. All these equipments supported the processing services of the seismic data, software development, and research activities.
In parallel with his work at 3DGeo, Radu also went to school for the two years full-time evening Rice MBA for Professionals program. During the 2nd year, he selected and accepted the offer from Cameron to join the GOLD Program as Business Process Lead.

In today's economies of expertise, knowledge is the most valuable individual asset. Because of that Radu invested a lot of time and effort in his education. It was not always easy, but it was often more fun than anything else. Because of the difficult economical crisis in mid 90s' in Romania, during the transition towards a free market economy, Radu had to start working full time during college years. He continued this way ever since throughout his academic tenure. This was a great opportunity to correlate the theoretical studies with practical business problems. This approach benefitted a lot both the quality of his education and of his work experience.

Radu is an alumnus of Grigore Moisil Computer Science Highschool (Iasi, Romania), and has attended the secondary school at Colegiul Costache Negruzzi Iasi (Romania).

Radu enjoys challenges and discoveries. He is passionate about his work, and he enjoys to communicate, to explore, to discover, to lead and conquer.
Despite of being born behind the infamous Iron Curtain, he always felt truly free, and he values freedom more than anything else. During those hard years, after the age of 9 he helped his parents at the long lines for the food ratios, but he also read a lot. His father, a librarian and former journalist, used to bring home American and Western magazines (e.g. Sinteza, Prisma) and books. His mother, a software analyst, introduced him into the world of computers. Radu's parents also enrolled him in semi-official English classes at the age of 8, invested a lot in their sons' education, and later on made huge financial efforts to provide them with a PC at home during the mid 90's crisis. There aren't words to describe Radu's gratitude for the education received from his parents, and for their sacrifices to provide their sons with a childhood as normal as it was possible in those hard times.
Radu always gives back to the community he lives in and often involves in volunteer activities. While student he was member of Studmont, a student organization dedicated to environmental programs in the Carpathian Mountains. He collaborated with AIESEC, and also was Ambassador in Iasi for foreign students and staff, especially for those in the Socrates/Erasmus and Fulbright programs. In United States, he brought a modest contribution as volunteer in the aftermath of the hurricane Ike. Even if he cannot vote yet in the US, Radu firmly believes in the values of the free society and is active in organizing voting stations for the Romanian citizens every time there are elections or referendums in Romania or in the European Union.
Since an early age Radu started to explore the mountains, first with his parents and later on with his friends. At the age of 11 he obtained his first passport, and since then he has traveled in more than 20 countries on 3 continents. During high-school, it was common for students to have nicknames. His colleagues and friends attributed him the nickname Socrates both because of his thick beard and because of his genuine interests beyond the scope of Computer Science. For many years, this website was called Socrate Online.
